Default Help Needed

Hi
I've bought a t reg impreza wrx which has light front end damage I'm trying to get the engine started but the previous owner told me when he hit it he tried to start it but nothing happen and he was told not to try and start it incase he does some damage to it. He then told me I'd have to check the timing before I try to start it, from what I can see the radiator is touching the fan belt and pushed it out other than that it all looks ok. I am told the engine is forged but there's no paperwork to prove it.
The reason I bought this is to upgrade my 92 legacy turbo and break and sell the rest, it has some sti bits and a vf22 turbo. The reason for the post is I would like to know which parts could upgrade my car and mainly what to do or check with the engine as a friend of mine was with the seller when he paid £1500 for the engine days before he hit it.

Regards

Upgrades all depend on how deep ure pockets are and wht power your looking for. You can spend anything from 1k to 100k+. Personally i would neva buy a car stated as forged without supporting paperwork as if u push up the power and its not forged ure gna end up with a lump tht is only good to be weighed in.

Good look with what eva u decideate

Have a good look at the cam belt covers at the bottoms at each end. It'll be the lower cam pulleys that get smashed if anything. If the covers look ok like it hasn't hit then try something else to get it started - eg the basics, fault codes, got fuel and spark?

Whatever you do, get the engine running in the smashed car first so you at least know it's a good runner before going through the trouble of swapping it about. Assuming the cambelts intact. When the engines out you could take the sump off see if theres steel rods in there, take the flywheel off and remove the gudgeon pin plate off and look at the pistons to see if they're forged. Take a spark plug out and measure the stroke, if you're lucky it's 79mm.
