Default Help please probs after box diff and clutch change.

Morning all.

Have recently had clutch, gearbox and diff changed on my 94 Wrx import.

Found straight away when goes into boost whole car judders violently, mainly in 1st, 2nd and a bit in 3rd.

So it went back and prop was changed...

Still the same. Any ideas please so can try and get it sorted ASAP as not liking limping it to work and back whilst like this.

Cheers.

What box did you put in as a replacement? (Model and year of car it came out of and gearbox code) plus you changed the centre or rear diff?

^^^^^^^

Could be a miss match of diff ratios and or drop down gearing..........

As far as I'm aware the box and diff are matching from a 2000 uk.??? And was told all will be fine..!!! And the only issue would be the speedo cable..

Tony means he has accidently posted twice himself hence the edit to double post.
Who fitted the box and diff and has everything been checked that would of been removed?
If all is ok you need to make sure it is a matching diff and box and that there are no issues with it.

This juddering/vibration is it when the clutch is biting or just on full throttle ?

If its when the clutch reaches the biting point then you have an issue with the flywheel. Should be skimmed /replaced with a new one when replacing a clutch.

If its on full throttle it would point to a center diff problem or mis match between box and rear diff. Was the rear diff check to determine weather it matched the box?

Morning fellas, did reply the other day but lost wifi so it never posted and don't wanna type all out again. But something odd happened last night when going to work. Warmed car to temp as normal, came down our road 50yards then onto another drove over speed bumps in 2nd and gave it a boot passed parked cars (say 200yards) no judder... Waited at end of road to go onto main road, blipped it in 1st into 2nd and changed into 3rd.... No judder!!!

A fair bit of vibration thu stick tho.

Drove at 30 for say 1/2 a mile and gave it a blipped again and low and behold bloody judder again, drove another 1/2 mile without gettin into boost and gave a quick blip at work and there was judder just not as bad. I finish at 6am so will try again in a few hours and update.

Also answering the question I was told the box and diff and prop are off the same car and had no issues with it?? And no he flywheel wasn't done. And yes I initially could feel it pulling away slow in 1st but can't now and yes it's when giving car a bit of beans into boost.

Thanx again for ur posts guys.

That vibration in my opinion is your center diff trying to eat itself due to a mis match in box ratio and rear diff ratio.
Also being told that they are from the same car doesnt mean much you need to confirm they are matching as in get the code from the box and find out the rear diff ratio

Gearbox is easy, look at the label on the side of the gearbox near the starter motor area. It will start TY754 or TY752 then look it up here http://www.catherineandken.co.uk/sti/trans.html , It will probably be a 4.111 - not all codes are on that site so just post the code on the gearbox here if it's not listed.

The rear diff you will need to work out. Just mark the propshaft flange and the rear driveshaft flange and count the turns in relation to each other.

Had a whining noise, that increased with acceleation. some people where saying box, others clutch (know she had an old clutch in) others saying fly wheel. So got the box and diff and clutch and gave it over to be changed.

This is worse then original problem as feels like something is gonna twist up.

Clutch is nice tho

Hi Baz, the car is a daily runner so needed to do asap, was told the hastle and cost to recon my box. And someone else said it could be diff bearing.

I didn't have this problem before the change either.

Problem solved, took it in again and she's had a different box and diff.
Still unsure what the problem was tho???

But she's fixed for my journey and that's all I was worried about. (unless box goes again lol)
