Default Any landrover people on here, help needed

Hi all i know this is not a landy forum but any help would be great.

I bought the wifey a freelander for the school run and it has a problem with the heater,
when the landrover is ticking over it warms up fine and heaters work fine but when its driven around on long roads the heater goes cold and the temp guage drops the expansion tank is full, could it be an airlock or a thermostat ?
ps its the 1.8gs engine

Hmmm, if the thermo was stuck open it would not affect it once it was warm though would it,

I thought if it was stuck shut then it would cause simlar symptoms

Wish you had posted before you bought it! They are quite possible the most unreliable car ever made - In the Top 10 Autocar worse buys! That said, my Mrs bought one from new (2006) and in covering 50k leisurely miles we have replaced; head gasket, 2 x centre diff, 2 x back box, 1 x gear box and 1 x fuel pump.
Currently, the rear seat is broken (had to saw through bracket so we could get to fuel pump) and we are suffering same symptoms as you - it was head gasket last time round and now we have done another 5k miles I suspect it has gone again.
If it wasn't for the fact that the Mrs still likes it, I would have driven it to the scrap yard

Quick update,

I managed to get an hour spare on it today, I fitted a new thermostat and cleaned the coolant temp sensor and now the car ticks over better but not perfect and the temp issue is now spot on. tomorrow i will throw a new sensor on it with new plugs/ oil/ filter ect ect and i reckon she will be fine

The dreaded head gasket issue is nowhere near as bad as people make out, if the job is done properly with the newer designed gasket there should be no issues.
