Default Odd Gearbox Issues - Series McRae

Hi Guys,

Right, got problems with the gearbox on my UK Series McRae

Basically I broke down a couple of weekends ago on the way back from Connor's Day. Came up to a busy roundabout and went to select 1st and couldnt get it in. Tried all the other gears including reverse, but nothing. . .its as if the gate's were not there. Engine on or off, didnt make any difference, there was no way it would get a gear.

After about 90 mins of trying, on and off, I got a gear. . .it was 5th. So I drove onto the M60 and back home to N Wales, in 5th all the way. I got to my house and took it out of gear....Tried all gears and they were all perfect

Reverse is a stubborn gear to get into, sometimes I need to hold the lever with two hands to keep it in reverse gear. Others gears seem ok, maybe a little notchy but they have always been like that.

Just last weekend I was going to meet up with Pete Farrow as he was on the way to Ireland and as I went to my local petrol station I heard an odd noise. . .I pulled over and heard a noise like the usual release bearing noise. So carried on but then I had a noise that sounded like something rattling that increased with speed. Nothing was trapped on the prop etc. So ended up driving it home and parking it up.

Yesterday, I had Rich (rishgreenscooby on here) fit a new exedy clutch kit to it. Whilst the box was out he took off the inspection cover and saw a plastic part which was loose. It looks like a drain or channel for an oil feed, really odd. Rich wasnt able to remove it so put it back where it should be and then carried on with the job.

I took it for a short spin after and low and behold, the rattling sound appeared withing 200 yards!! Put your clutch to the floor and the sound reduces speed then stops. . .lift your foot up again and its rattling. Go into first and drive slowly forward, the noise appears. . .select reverse and its quiet!!
Have a look at the pictures and see what you think . . .its an odd one . . . .the car still drives but I may have to trailer i down to Prodrive next weekend just in case it fails me.

Your help would be much appreciated

The plastic thing is the 'z' looking thing thats at an odd angle. (The front of the gearbox is at the top of the picture)
