Default 300hp and 434 lb/ft torque

I was watching a video of Tommi makkinen and his wrx car had 300 hp and 434 lb torque.
How do they tune it for more torque, would it be better to tune for just torque or torque and hp?
Would I get same figures from tuning sti type uk for torque?

I think they get the torque from running quite high compression, not 100% sure though.

They ran restrictors on the turbo, which restricts bhp but not torque as much, without restrictor it's likely would kick out 400+ hp to match the torque

Its all about the restrictors they have to use in WRC, my understanding is it strangles the car of air in high RPM's which is what you need to make big HP as HP is just a sum of torque and RPM so if an engine made 430+ torque and could breath easily upto 7000 rpm it could make a ton of HP.

Race fuel allows the engine to run high boost and ignition advance which produces the torque.

with a air restricted engine running high boost, torque peaks quite low in the rev range then drops quickly as the revs rise and the engines ability to consume more air diminishes as a result of the restrictor.
Bhp is torque x revs, so as peak revs are low then so is the bhp in comparison to the torque figure.

As said before, unrestricted, an engine producing that sort of torque would make similar or more bhp and the peaks for both would be higher up the revs as the engine could consume more air.
