Hi all,
I'm looking for a small Motorsport type battery to fit my 96STI to make a bit more space under the bonnet, but I can't find anyone selling them. If someone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

I am using one from powervamp, great battery and reasonably priced.

 

Ordered an Odyssey PC680 & a fitting bracket. It's tiny will save me loads of space, but there are no posts to fit the terminals to, do I need to modify my cables to fit , or can I get posts to fit?

 

Screw in style posts available at the same place you bought the battery (according to the Odessy website)

I used an old socket, think it was a 10mm.

 

What is the weight saving over a standard battery?

 

weight saving is huge but remember the capacity of the battery is also reduced and cranking on a cold morning it wont take long to kill them. I use the odessey pc680on the race RA excellent batteries but have lost almost all the normal electrical loads that a road car has. Wouldnt use one on my road car.

 

I've had mine on about 4 or 5 months, it's fine on a daily driver but leave it a couple of weeks and it's flat.

 

Thanks Ron might give it a go before I order the terminals.

 

My car is a toy, in the summer I use it a lot more sometimes evry day, but in winter it's parked up unless we get a mild spell. My plan is to leave it on an Optimate when not in use.

 

i got away with one of the terminals with just the screw that was supplied. the other i used a socket and put a penny washer over the top to hold everything in place, been spot on since.

 

Ive got an odessey ..... havent had much use out of it yet and havent needed to call on it on a cold morning, so jurys still out!

Will definately be having a starter pack in the boot for a while though!

As mentioned, an optimate is a good plan!

As for the terminals, a proper job approach would be to cut the origional terminals off the loom and solder on some beefy eyelets.

 

Just thought I'd update this. I got an Odyssey battery off EBay for a reasonable price & I was shocked by how tiny it is, I could almost put it in my pocket. I decided to fit it in front of the fuse box right up against the inner wing to give me the maximum amount of free space to relocate my catch tank. I ordered OE style posts from Active Robots, an alloy fitting bracket from OBP, some heavy duty battery cable & solder on terminals from JJC Race and Rally. Fitting was easy but the live starter cable had to be replaced with a longer one & great care needs to be taken drilling holes here as the expansion tank is hidden in the inner wing area.

Relocating the battery to the boot is something Iv considered & may do at a later date, but for now I'm happy as is, until I run out of space again.
