Oil used for gb270
Hi, sorry for a simple newbie question. I'm looking to do the oil change myself and was wondering if I should use something other than 5w 30. Don't mind paying that bit extra to keep the engine in good condition. It's a standard car. Any assistance is appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks
I use Fuchs Titan Pro S 10W50 for summer use and Valvolene VR1 Racing 5W50 for winter use - horses for courses really. Any decent quality oil is the most important.
If you use a non Subaru oil filter make sure you get the smaller one of the two - there are two sizes and the larger one does not fit.
Also disconnect the crank sensor before starting - not essential but for 20 seconds work seems a no brainer.

Thanks for the quick response and explaining about disconnecting the crank sensor before turning it over. Also for pointing out the oil filter size. I'll have a look online and see what deal I can get on the oil. The car is an 07 and has 21000miles on the clock. It's got a full service history and according to the book it has it down for a cam belt change. I was going to give this a miss as I thought it a bit early. What's your opinions? Would I be better putting it in for it? If so do you know roughly how much that service costs?
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
Opieoils has some good offers on oil at the moment (and some other goodies as well) - Cambelt is 5 years or 50000 miles whichever is soonest - definitely get it done not too expensive unless it fails! The service manual has a misprint as well one service table states 50000 miles the other states 60000 (which is the misprint).

Hi
There is no need to go for a thick oil like a 50 or 60 as your car is standard - it's not going to be generating the heat to make the oil to thin, so it causes more internal resistance to use a thick oil and gives less protection.

Go for a 5w-40

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XFS, Fuchs GT1 XTL/Supersyn, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.
Also, if you use the code SCOOBY, there is an extra 10% off.
Cheers
