Default Type r dccd settings

Can someone explain in basic terms what each setting means and how it effects driveability

Am i right in thinking that the first light at the bottom is fully open and so the biggest talk split to the rear and power is progressivley evened out/the diffs locked the further up the scale you go until the diffs are locked which us 50/50 but its still ok to drive in this setting and will not danage anything?

I usually gave it on the first setting and tbf have not played around with it but which setting is best for different conditions?

Why couldnt it of been made simple i.e. tarmac gravel and snow haha

If it could be explained with tarmac gravel and snow in mind it woukd be much appreciated

Cheers
