W6 ecu
Hi everyone, new to this so not sure if im even doing this right
I've got a 1994 impreza wrx import with a W6 ECU, car has a few mods like TD05 turbo, uprated fuel pump but not sure which one? HKS super powerflow induction kit, blitz boost control, blitz dump valve and full 3" decat with ninja backbox . The car was running at 0.9bar but after fitting induction kit went up to 1bar.
I know on a version 1 you cant remap ecu, can chip it though. does this boost sound normal for a W6 ecu with these mods? dont know if anything has been done to it. the guy i bought car off said it was about 300bhp, i dont think so some how. been looking at a chipped z4 on ebay and a k6 from a v2 sti. all the info i been reading on these are very conflicting and confusing. anyone suggest the chipped z4 or the sti k6?

Boost creep will happen with the induction kit and 3" decat.
You may also hit the fuel cut safety limit if it peaks too high.
To control this you can reduce the size of the brass restrictor in the boost control solenoid return pipe, which normally returns to the large black plastic expansion box on the air intake.
This may of been removed as part of the induction kit, so check the boost control return hose is still there and still has the restrictor fitted (quite common fault is to remove hose or replace with silicon hose without the restrictor)
Standard boost for the early W6 ECU is 11.47psi (0.79 bar)
The above is all based on the car running ECU controlled boost and not boost controller controlled boost.
Chipped Z4 are OK depending onwho chipped it
The STi V2 6K ECU is the same map as the UK Prodrive chip and peaks at 13.64psi (0.94 bar) with a much better fuel and ignition map compared to the rather spikey W6.
FYI and your right it won't be 300BHP. you won't see this unless chipped/mapped to at least 1.15 - 1.2bar which is the absolute max for the standard 380cc injectors and Map sensor.
Oh....and the TD05 isn't a modification, it's standard........

dont bother with the chipped ecu just get a z4 and get afr's checked.run a z4 on my 93 wrx with full decat system, walbro, induction and just over 270 bhp nice and safely.i had mines chipped z4 with manual boost controller on mine as well when i got it and was running well lean at top end so got rid straight away.

its a good standard ecu but thats for running sti spec and i think the sti has different turbo (might be wrong but thought sti had vf turbo not tdo5) 300 is also pushing it on standard injectors and slanty intercooler.i am happy running 270 nice and safe and waiting to have 2.1 stroker built to go for higher bhp nice and bulletproof but will be running simtek.
