Judder noise when setting off from rear end

Judder noise when setting off from rear end
I yesterday purchased a 2003/53 GX Impreza Saloon Auto, when you set off there is a juddering noise that seems to come from the rear end. When you get over 35 mph it seems to stop.
It also lacks power.
The guy I bought it off said it needed a new cat, I am not sure this is the only problem.
Can anyone help with what it might be?
Is it maybe the diff or AWD system or could it be the cat ?
