Default water all over the place

hi going to work to day and the temp gage hit the red.lookerly i was nearly there.when i stopped there was water dripping from the under side of the front valance.couldn't see where it was coming from in the engine compartment.let it cool down and topped the water up.about half a liter.this is the first time the gauge has got above half way.in the 5 years i have owned the wrx impreza turbo..this has never happened.[ mortified ] brought her home about 12 miles, when i slowed down there was a little steam coming from the bonnet.but the gauge never moved from the middle. checked the water a home.used about an egg cup full.and there was no water dripping from under the car .and the fans are working fine.the only strange thing that has happened in the last couple of weeks is that the heater has taken a lot longer to com on.be extremely grateful for any advice.

Open the bonnet and rev the engine, if the leak is around the rad you will see it as the pressure tries to find a way out.

Same goes for the top and bottom hoses, especially the top hose, which can develop a tiny split, it p*sses out under pressure, then does nowt when you try and find it, LOL.

It could be that the system was airlocked: keep an eye on it. If it DOES take an age to get warm in the car, drain the coolant and refill with 50% stuff as per a search on here.
