Default Beyond Help?

The block i've stripped has an obvious groove where i believe the crank has ground into the side. The engine had originally spun a shell.
Its visible to the eye and you can also feel it.
Question is, is it salvage-able?.

I suppose if its ground "in" then it wouldn't make contact with the new crank?

Is it a special block? Ie semi closed or is it just a bog standard open deck block? If its just an open deck you would be as well to get a replacement as it'll cost next to nothing.
