steering return to centre
what's the diagnosis if your steering is loose, that 'not connected' feel, and when you let the steering wheel return to its original position with no hands (after taking a corner) it rotates back round very jerky/stop-starty.
like if you pulled a weight with an elastic band, it wouldn't move at first until there was enough tension on it, then it snaps forward when there is, and it wouldn't move again until the elastic band gained enough tension again.
that's the feeling i'm getting from it.

lower turbo heatshields on some models can jam against the steering shaft knuckle if the welds break I believe. Also you could check the universal steeing joint itself as I think they can sometimes lock up like that when worn which may explain the vagueness also. Thats my best guess if you have eliminated things like low steering fluid etc.
