Default 97 turbo 2000 judder now wont start HELPPP!!

Rite! Where to start got my impreza two weeks ago and after a day or two the check engine light came on. Then it started juddering for want of a better word. It was ok until i hit 3000 revs and it nearly put me through the window. It did that for a while and then it was like it was runnning out of fuel and backfiring now it will not start at all. Please some one point me in the right direction as to what this can be thanks

When you say it was cutting out at 3000rpm, was it doing this on full throttle or at part throttle?

Sounds a bit like overboost fuel cut. It means something is seriously wrong and the ECU is trying to save your engine. Continuing to drive it while it is like that is a very bad idea. Although it could be something else, need more info to diagnose I think.

If you've had a CEL up, you can connect the read memory connectors under the dash and read the codes off. Google subaru read trouble codes, there are loads of guides.

OK, if it was happening intermittently and not just on full throttle then it won't be overboost fuel cut.

Unfortunately it leaves us with a long list of things it could be. As I suggested, read the error codes off the ECU and see if they give you any tips.

Fuel pump is possible, but also consider checking crank and cam sensors. The crank/cam sensors will throw a fault code and CEL, although fuel pump probably won't.

Walbro 255 fuel pump cost about £80-100 I think , and not that difficult to fit yourself or an hours labour approximately. Always worth changing it anyway if upgrading your engine.
