2002 Bugeye Stinks of Fuel Plus Fire in Engine Bay
Ok, i wrote about this problem before but i was pretty cluless.
after doing loads of searches i can see that the fuel smell is a common problem.
in our car, the bonnet lining caught fire and burned out. we were lucky the car didnt go up in flames i suppose.
we have paid the garage for 1.5 hours labour only for the advice that 'theres nothing wrong with it.'
another amateur mechanic with thousands of pounds of snap on diagnostics was stumped too.
so, im now at the stage where i must go looking for the fault myself. I understand this is a common problem and i need a new fuel rail and rubber hoses???
so can anyone give me instructions on how to do this. ive done this lots of times on my cars (mondeos) so i should be competent.
thanks

You dont need a rail. Just new hoses between the rails. If your doing it yourself then you may as well do a parallel conversion as theres no extra cost involved. Do a search on parallel fual rail cnversion or similae

hi thanks for the replies.
i will give this chap a ring on the offchance on tuesday so thanks for that.
hi thats good news that i wont needa new fuel rail. thanks for that. however, the parallel conversion is throwing up prices of hundreds of pounds, wheras simply changing the rubber hoses would cost very little, id have thought?

Mmm no. You can set up both fuel rails in parallel with simple rubber hose new jubilee clips and a couple of brass Y connectors. Not much extra at all. Yes you could spend loads to do it but its not needed
