Default block queston

hiya there i have got hold of an S reg complete engine Ej20 with head gasket problem. very cheap

my plan is to use the Engine after Heads skimmed and new head gaskets..

but i have been told that when head gaskets go shortly after the bottom end goes and i should open the block and fit ACL bearings

My Question is if i open the block and fit ACL bearings will i have to pay out for anythink else or is it just simple...

Open block fit ACL bearing and slap block back togther ?
The block is fine at the moment, crank, bearing, rod, pistons ect

What i mean by paying out for anythink else is will i have to get th crank balanced again or anything along these lines ??

cheers Dean

If the crank is worn you'll need a new one. All bearing clearances need checking with plastigauge you may need rods aswell. It's a can of worms you're about to open,a fully forged build may be a good idea & if you don't know what you're doing best let a respected engine builder do it for you.

Hi Dean

Seeing as you have the time do a proper job on the engine you have, any headgasket jobs we get the engine is fully stripped and given a new lease of life.

As stated above in a reply reface the decks of block halfs aswell as the heads, give her the once over and you will end up with a reliable unit. Obviously the more you can afford to upgrade/modify the bigger performance envelope you will end up with.

Cheers

Stephen
