Default CAMBELT CHANGE turbo 2000

Right chaps,
I'm changing the cambelt on the car tomorrow, i have a full cambelt and tensioner kit, and am also going to remove the oil pump to check the bolts on the rear as my Crankshaft front oil seal has gone, so doing that at the same time.

Now i know what i'm doing (well nearly anyway) just a couple of small quick questions before i rip her to bits, lol.

Do i need to lock the cams, or will they stay were they are?

Are there any common parts that are likely to break/need replacing at the same time?

As per usual i have left this job for a bank holiday, rather stupid i know, but it's the only time i have had free from work to do it.

I'm doing it tomorrow, then if anything does go tit's up, the local friendly subaru parts store is open again on saturday morning to bail me out of the ****, lol.
cheers fellas

steve

I didn't lock the cams on mine when i did it, just use a quality belt with the timing marks on it to line them up.
Also another tip, i removed the front grill & rad before doing mine, makes it so much easier to see what you are doing

Nice 1 cheers fella
I did think about getting the rad out of the way, but managed to get all the covers off last weekend to find out what the leak was without removing it, so was in two minds,
But to make life easier i think the rad will be off

Cool, may take you up on that then mate
The only problem i have so far is with time, i have to use the car at 1100 tomorrow to go to see the boss at my new job, so can't start anything till about 1300, hence why i'm half expecting it not to be completed until sat morning if i bugger anything up.
I bet any money it's pissin down too

Right, update chaps.lol
Did it today as was busy yesterday in the end, and had a bit of a nightmare tbh

Removed the old belt no problem, removed the oil pump, no problem, changed seal, and made sure oil pump screws on back plate were nice and tight.

Then started the nightmare, after much swearing and seeing my **** i concluded that i had the wrong belt

So struggled to get the old one to re-fit, made a couple of phone calls and Rich from Blue bridge Subaru called down after he finished work and sorted it for me, all-be-it with the old belt refitted

Cant thank Rich enough as i had to have the car running today as working tomorrow.

Once again Thanks Rich, and i will be in to see you soon for the correct belt

What a right back & front, nothing like having to do the job twice! Still at least you will be able to do it even quicker next time with the right belt.

Yeah was a bit of a nightmare, but at least have now got the job sussed and should be able to to it with the correct belt in a fairly decent time, bit pi$$ed really, but at least i'm still on the road, and the oil leaks cured

Did the right cams jump? Can save a bit of time if you hold these in place using mole grips.

Right hand exhaust cam jumped 90 degrees to the right, all the others stayed where they should have been.
Rich brought the proper Subaru cam locking tools with him, Easy job with the correct tools

Tough one that mate, tbh i really don't know.
When i got it, there were a load of mods listed by the previous owner, everything from apexi ecu to dumpvalve and all sorts of ****.
Most of it was bull, as i have fixed things along the way i have sussed whats true and whats false.

It has a full decat, K&N panel filter, did have a Bailey bov, but i ditched that for the standard recirc.
No Apexi, unless it's had something like a chip or something inside the Ecu, but i've not had that apart to look..... Yet.

I would say it's had a remap at some stage as it's on boost at about 2100rpm and according to the boost gauge it's boosting at about 13psi, and also runs sweet and pulls well, used to get the EML on pretty regularly, but that now seems to have stopped since putting the standard recirc valve back on.

Other than that i don't know......yet
