Default Rear disc back plate.

Has anyone seen this before, when cornering hardish i was getting a grinding noise on rears somewhere around the wheel.turns out to have been the round plate behind shoes had rusted a little behind it and pushed the plates lip onto the discs when cornering ? Was thinking of changing wheel bearings to cure it but so glad this was spotted at local garrage.took a bit of lip off so hope its sussed now.

Its a 2002 sti.

Yes I have seen it a lot , happens more when the lip has gone rusty , if we come across this problem fitting discs we just take a little off the lip , it could be play in the bearings , but I think you will get a little flex in the hub under hard cornering

My car did this after fitting new rear discs. The groove must have wore the backplate to suit now, only hear it on very tight roundabouts now and again.

Many thanks guys for your input.

Is it ian at godspeed ? Sorry im not totaly sure, lol.i was wondering if you had any ideas why the garrage keeps getting air in brakes when bleeding ? When they removed rear discs to check the noise i had one of the bolts snapped so they sent it off to get helicoiled and when returned and all fitted back on i had really bad pedal travel and no brakes till i pumped it,also brake warning light on but that was low fluid / sticking float sensor thing.so back in this morning and he rebled that side but no better so he did all four, but it bled ok then when he come back to check first one it still had air in it,round them all again whilst topping reservoir up inbetween but when going back to the first one he did it still had air in it !! He done it while engine running and did it furthest one away from reservoir to the closest,no leaks either, any ideas mate,thanks- carl.
Just to add.brake fluid was only done before xmas with dot 5.1 fluid and bled through, pedal was really good and brakes were ace.i have standard type discs with ds2500 pads that worked really well before all this.

Air may have already been in the system and was displaced when bled. Keep bleeding is the only way to get shut of it.
