Default engine removal

Need to do the clutch and belts alone

Can the engine be pulled with the box on the back?

No mate it's quite easy, i have done it on me todd and tbh theres not a lot to it, in fact if i were to do just the clutch i'd take the engine out having just taken about 4hrs to get a box and diff out on my back with axel stands, i'd have the engine out in an hour and a half easy having done it twice.

1st time is the hardest as with anything, took me around 5 hrs but i was faffing and took loads off that i didn't need to.

Tricky bit is the turbo oil return pipe if you had a bearing failure and need to flush it with oil, as this is done when you put it back in and everything is together and can be a right pig.

Just make sure you get the clutch plate nice and central, you can use a scrap shaft to line things up but i never had that and just did by eye.

To get the input shaft to locate you need to put it in 5th gear, jack the wheels off the ground then turn them slightly so the splines line up, then just gently slide the engine in, you will also need to jack the gear box up as well.

the song was me being stupid. have fun

thats the only prob ive had is lining up the spline properly, been a right pita but i`ll try that thing putting it in 5th. gotta do my clutch the weekend

apart from that it is alot easier pulling the engine forward and you`re not on your back in the dirt

I only have axle stands. I have read that pulling the block isn't much longer than having the box off.

Us real men don't get girly luxuries like ramps and alignment tools.

If all you have is axel stands, engine out is a damm sight easier and as i said above 2hrs and while its out you can do all the fluids, cambelt, clutch and flywheel and even the plugs with no hastle at all set of headers and an up pipe in no time, on your driveway in a day.

That lot would cost the best part of a grand in labour alone.

yes it will go into gear mate , only need clutch when engine running ! even if you pushed clutch pedal by accident its not so bad , you would only have to bleed it,
chris.

Mate, i was helping you! and calling me names is not a nice thing to do.

You have a couple of questions at the min running over two threads, you have the engine out, well done thats the easy bit.

But you don't know what the clutch does, so an even bigger WELL DONE!

Now some of us have a sense of humour, and find it amusing that your asking about putting a car into gear when there is no engine in or running, on account of it being funny to those of us that know the clutch is there to disengage the engine from the transmission so enabling a gear to be selected, hence it being funny that you are asking this question and there is no engine in the car.

Now we all have to start somewhere, but learn to laugh at yourself and chill out a bit think about what your doing and do your research BEFORE you start otherwise you won't get far.

I'm not 100% on that myself, i presume it's because there will be less resistance, which shouldn't be relevant so could be wrong on that, or the shaft is furthest forward when its in 5th so making it easier to engage.

But the info came from a trusted source so i didn't question it, i'm more of a how person than a why person and it worked so who cares.
