How to test if DCCD works + ratios
Hi guys,
distinct lack of any wet tarmac or dusty surfaces considering the time of year - so wondering if there's a way I can test that my car acctually does have DCCD. It has the control switch and it lights up the dash, but it hasnt broken traction once in the rear except for one very tight corner which is straightened itself out of in seconds.
I'm curious if the type R is THAT well set up as a car, or if its just got a plain 4wd diff. I'm amazed.. I've chucked the thing a couple of times on full throttle 2nd gear just to test it and it just wont let go.
Pre-purhcase I was advised 'type R/P1 are wild cars, can be dangerous and difficult to control' in reality it's a complete ***** cat! lol

Would this work for newage STI's as well as I took an 05 blob eye out for a test drive and whilst the lights on the dash changed as I moved the DCCD wheel I couldn't tell if anything altered mechanically.

Yer it's just finding a suitable method in a safe environment to test the handling when test driving someone else's pride and joy lol. I don't mind so much if it's from a dealership but I'm a little weary to start giving someone else's motor a bit of stick handling wise!

As above. My DCCD, in the fully locked position, on full steering lock at parking speed, causes the car to judder and knock as the tyres fight the locked diff.
If you're worried the gearbox might have been swapped, check the gearbox number. Although diffs can be swapped this is rare and unlikely; if the gearbox code is right, you've probably got the diff.
You have a v3 type R right? Gearbox code should be TY752VB5CA.
Edited to add: https://www.scoobynet.com/showpost.p...2&postcount=66 has a list of boxes, ratios etc.

Thanks much. Is it safe to use full lock in the wet/grip for a bit of fun or is likely to go kaboom? I keep it open all the time usually, what ratio rear to front is that?

It shouldn't break on full lock but you will wear things out more quickly (including tyres etc). There is a translation of the DCCD manual somewhere giving advice on what you should and shouldn't do.
On full open the torque split is 65% rear, 35% front. (Fully locked is 50/50, of course!)

Ah right, not as much of a difference as I thought. In all honesty 65/35 is probably why it grips so bloody well! It's almost like it has the best worlds of rwd and 4wd, you can kick it a little then it sorts itself out whilst you power through. Can't wait to have a little shot on a dusty road see what it can do on the edge!
