i assume you are talking about the non turbo foresters?
i think the forester s turbo is around 177bhp,but the forester sti is around 260bhp.
forester sti is a nice motor, especially the newer models.

The older UK turbo Foresters are only around 150bhp standard due to the td03.5 turbo they have on there. Nothing stopping you getting a tdo5 16g on there and getting a remap to up the power a bit, that's what mine is getting once I have saved a bit more money. The other thing to remember is that it doesn't handle like an Impreza, if you spent loads of money on handling you can improve it but you still won't match what the Impreza can do.

I had a 97 forester S/Tb which was a Jap Import, Apexi Power FC, 100 octane fuel (lived in Cyprus at the time), and it had 262bhp

Was no slouch for an Auto
