Question

I have 215/40/17" tyres on my uk scooby but need new tyres.
do you have to replace all 4 or can you replace 2 at a time
because only 2 are bordering on being illegal...any info will
be much appreciated..

forgot to mention, i was told you have to change all 4 because
of the 4wheel drive set up..is there any truth in that..

As long as there ain't a vast difference in tread depth between front and rear you should get away with it, you must NOT replace one side of the car and not the other, and also not any one tyre, hence the space saver spare, the diffs don't like tooo much tread depth difference, although I'm sure there are a lot of people out therer who don't know about such things, and do whatever they want with the tyres.

Wink

My car is owned by my company and fleet managed through Autolease and I was told that all four had to be changed. Something to do with the rolling diameter of the tyre. Not sure if they are right or wrong to be really honest.

Ron is right, i had a 4x4 cavalier GSI and to save wear on the diff better off replaceing 4 tyres......i got 4 wheels and tyres off a Sport for £105, they had 70% tread on them...they also had other turbo wheels...check out Ebay (motor section).

Cool

I have a friend who has his own tyre & exhaust business and I have it on good authority from him that all 4 should be changed at the same time (no.... this is not a sales ploy!! - he too has an STI).

But what if the fronts wear faster ?

My previous MY99 always wore the front tyres out first, so I swapped rear to front putting the new tyres on the back. Surely there is no diference here.
