Default 1997 Impreza turbo uk Not Boosting

Hi all need some help. Too cut long story short I bought a 1997 Impreza turbo few months bk with blown 1st gear. Replaced box ran it up selected all gears was fine. Went to drive it up the street yesterday and it won't boost it just hesitates and backfires sounds ruff as hell. Not sure on bhp think it's just a uk spec engine with exhaust, filter and a front mount intercooler. I also have no CEL light on either. Any suggestions as what too look out for would be appreciated. Thanks

Start with MAF sensor but it could be anything.

Check in the passenger footwell, behind the carpet and see what ECU it is. No CEL light might point to an aftermarket ecu. worth a look. If it is a standard ECU then try a fault code check to see if anything flashes up. The symptoms you have described could be a millions things but MAF or another sensor fail will probably be the cause, ECU fault code check should cast you in the rightish direction.

Gearbox mounts look fine propshaft feels secure only thing I can think of is that the pins that keep driveshafts secure to gearbox are not fitted could this cause a bad vibration
