Default Problem caused trying to jump start car

My Classic (MY00 UK turbo) has a flat battery (I'm not using it much at the moment). Last week I successfully jump started it from our Ford Focus. Today it was flat again and without having the Focus a friend tried to jump it from a Ford diesel van (I had a funny feeling that this might be the wrong thing!).

When I connected the leads there were some sparks when the negative lead was connected to the Impreza. Now there is no power: no dash lights or any sign that the engine will try to start, except that the side lights and indicators have power. I'm thinking that something has shorted, or a fuse blown?

Any advice is much appreciated.
Nick

Check obvious first- fuses and put a new battery on it.
If after checking they are all ok, you could of buggered the ECU

go into the fuse box under the bonnet and have a look at the main fuseable link, its looks like a piece of wire with 2 spade connectors on it, mine did the same thing, check that worked for me, hope this helps wiggy1

Hate to state the obvious, but did you get the polarity right?

Did that once similar battery but terminals reversed. So always double check first.
