Default Bug Eye remap - 280bhp on WRX?

Can the standard Bug Eye ecu be chipped / remaped?
What parts would be needed for 280bhp from a Bug Eye? I was looking at 300bhp before, but chasing BHP is pointless...

Cheers.

Should be able to whip up 280 BHP from your TD04 turbo.......good panel filter, de-cat, fuel pump (to be on the safe side) and then a re-map. Opensource should do

More would require change of turbo and injectors........

My first upgrade to my Bug (WRX) was the Powerstation stage 1 package, 3in Exhaust (although 2.5 would have done at that level), De-cat up-pipe, Walbro 225 fuel pump, 3 port boost solenoid (not always needed but my OE 2 port couldn't control boost), K & N panel filter. Saw me at 275 with the ECUTek remap.

Basically any decent sports/decat exhaust 2.5/3inch and de-cat up-pipe (if wrx) plus fuel pump, filter and a remap (ecutek or open source) should see you close to 280, if you add a set of pink injectors (550s) and VF34/35 turbo to the mix you should be in the 350s which is the safe limit of the 5 speed box (I did run mine at almost 400 for a time without incident).

Your bug gearbox will handle the torque / BHP from a re-mapped TD04 without breaking into a sweat LOL

I think I've read that the gearbox on the blob's and hawkeye's are stronger? The 5 speed box in the bugeye appears to be the weak link in getting a 350BHP+ car!

People like Racedymanix and Jolly green Monster come to you

Bug/Blob WRX for the UK market left the factory in a pretty low state of tune so as not to step on the toes of the STi bigger brother.

If you are not into modding then I'd change the panel filter to a better one and simply have the car re-mapped for better BHP, torque and MPG

yeah thanks shaun, im not really into modding as the car is the mrs car but i do like to have a play now and then, got a few things to do -new clutch and a few tyres then shes back to good, i just get this feeling with an extra 20-30 bhp it would be so much better? off the top of your head do you know what kind of price i would need to pay for this? il have a look on there websites? cheers spencer

Opensource mapping is usually 225-250 quid, sometimes if there is a local group there may be a discount, if a mapper is travelling he may also offer a discount to others in the area..enginemapper sometimes has special offers.

EcuTeK mapping is more expensive as it involves a licence but for your needs opensource is pretty good

Where are you ?

I'm guessing that 280bhp is enough in the real world?

thanks shaun its definetly something i will get done, i was about to do it asap but i dont use the scoob a great deal but when i did the other night i noticed the clutch is very high{mrs uses it for work} so i just bought a exceedy clutch for £150 which i thought was a good price?. then i also noticed all 4 tyres are not great, on top of that just done the brakes all around had a service and had loads of painting done to get rid of the cosmetic issues so she should be all good very soon....the reason i only want a small increase in power is if anything goes wrong after a re-map my mrs will blame me so i thought id keep it quite low...thanks
