Default ventilation selector switch does nothing

Hi car is uk turbo 2000 facelift classic dash with top cubby. I have tried search and google but not sure if i am using the right keywords.
Basically when i turn the left (direction) **** on the heater controls to change the air direction from say feet to face it doesent change anything, i think its stuck on demist screen. Is this cable controlled or electrical? Any ideas what its likely to be and where i start looking.
It has aircon if this matters. Any tips advice or experiences welcome. Thanks

Usually a cable between the **** and heater box. Try putting your head under the dash and turning the dial, see if you can see anything

As above, sounds like the cable has come off one end or the other.

Repair ain't going to be easy......

Yeah i guess i'm going to have to pull the dash apart and have a look. Silly thing but its actually quite annoying that it doesnt work. Hopefully i will get lucky with a quick fix.

Just to close the thread and for those searching for answers... the **** is attached to a blue sheathed cable which had come off the heater box where it is connected on the offside of the centre console. I actually removed the whole centre plastics for better access (i changed the stereo at the same time too) but knowing where it connects i think it could have been re-attached without removing anything. At least i can have warm feet now! I like free fixes.
