Sti blobeye or Sti bugeye???
Hi all, I have been running and modifying my 94 sti for 2 years and have scrimped and saved for a while now and have finally saved up about £6500 to spend on the engine. However, I am having doubts about the car now and I think I would probably prefer to buy a new age with the money instead.
For my budget what am I best off trying to get with the money. My only musts are that it must be an sti and it must be a decent platform for modifications. (was thinking along the lines of a jdm version??).
Any advice is greatly appreciated as I really dont know much about the new age scoobys and the differences between the respective models, especially the uk spec and jap spec versions. Thanks in advance!!

ive seen a jdm blobeye for 6500 with 60,000 on the clock so how much am i lookin at for a gd one? whats the benefits of a jdm over a uk? Also whats the difference between a blob eye and a bugeye? I have heard that bug eyes have weak bottom ends but dont know if thats true or not?

The jdm have stronger internals, better turbo but they lack the famous scooby burbble because they have even headers. You get a few extras like rear wiper etc but remember the jdm version has a shorter gear ration so keep that in mind if you are doing a lot of motorway miles.

I'm a blobeye owner so I would say I prefer the blobeye shape.
The jdm have stronger internals, better turbo but they lack the famous scooby burbble because they have even headers. You get a few extras like rear wiper etc but remember the jdm version has a shorter gear ration so keep that in mind if you are doing a lot of motorway miles.

UK blobs stuck with the single scroll so not much to choose between the UK Bug / Blob mechanically until the wider track came in (2005 ish)
Jap Bugs have singlescroll but more toys and tuned for more power.

The first link you put up is actually a WRX. Over priced if you ask me.
The other link the information is a bit short so give Powerstation Uk of Tewesbury a call to find out more about the car. I would have thought it would have made more BHP so just double check there could be a reason why they didn't push it.
The JDM is by far the best that you have put up. But it doesn't mention a remap so find out when it was imported etc. It should have been mapped to run UK fuel.

I like the looks of both the bugs and the blobs so its jus down to the mechanical side of things, Is a twin scroll set up worth the extra money if im gonna be looking to upgrade the bhp?
Also not sure if I've got enough for a jdm blob, maybe Im better off goin for a really good bugeye instead, rather than trying to stretch my budget?

The lack of a remap might be why its so cheap the bottom end could be on its way out. The price of that car is cheap even for a UK Blob STI so alarm bells are ringing. However if it was taken into part ex it could be why they are selling it so cheap. Some people just don't have enthusiasm for these cars and are getting rid when the trade garages are offering ridiculous prices. I'm not sure where you live but I don't think its near me so can't go have a look for you sorry.
I bout a scooby for its burbble amoungs other things. I had even headers and hated it after a while but loved that there was little to no lag.
You really need to go test drive these and see for yourself what you prfer, the constant power regarless of the revs or the sudden kick and that distinc burbble.
For a UK STI anywhere from £6200 for an early version to £9500 for a mint widetrackedition. These prices are advertised prices of a blob so negotiate when you are there. The bug I don't have much experince with only what I know from research and what I have seen from the mates that own them so can't really give as much of an indepth conclusion that I feel I can give with the blobs.
On another note the widetrack offers a bit more but seriously just go with the UK STI as the whole mapping issue and service history can be very dangerous when going with a JDM. Its hard enough buying a normaly scooby lol.

There is no doubt that the biggest bang per buck is a Bug STi.
Unbreakable drive train (almost), brembo's interior etc....but they are a 10 year old car and a lot could have happened in that time. Having said that for something over 4 grand you do get a lot of car for the money

Both JDM and UK Bugeye and Blobeye STI's have really strong engines, to be honest i think they are just as strong as each other. The biggest mechanical improvement with a JDM car is that it has the twin scroll turbo, equal length manifold and uprated heads.
I'd still recommend a UK or JDM widetrack. Both would handle upto 450 on standard internals if thats any use to you. It's just the JDM car will do that with less turbo lag.
You'd be better off looking on Piston Heads mate.

Looks like the JDM that you were looking at is out of the question.
It all depends on what you are after power. If so then you might end up replacing most of the parts on a JDM that make it a JDM so in actual fact it might be better to a UK STI.

this has been some awesome advice guys, im gonna try for a jdm blob, 2nd choice a uk blob, failing that a really good sti bug. Thanks for all the advice, greatly, greatly appreciated!!!
