It won't fit mate without a different Dumpvalve.
The P1 (99/2000) models use a DV bolted directly to the Intercooler, the 98 uses a hose mounted DV.
Also, on a 98 the idle valve (circled white-ish plastic bit) is right in front of the mounting holes for the DV, as the P1/99/2000 models have the valve on the other side (left from throttle body when seen from the front).
You could fab up a blanking plate, to blank of the hole in the Intercooler that the DV mounts to, and keep your My98 hose/DV valve. (this would be the most simple option)

You have a couple of options open to you :1. you can sell it and buy a sti intercooler of a 97/98 car which will fit straight on. 2. you can buy an adaptor plate that just bolts over the holes and has a angled exit to the right which will allow you to use your existing hoses.Whichever option you decide try and get the Y pipe set up with the intercooler,as this allows a smoother flow of air over the restrictive oe unit.
I did this upgrade, I bought a right-angled adaptor that allowed me to use my 98 dumpvalve with the new i/c.
Paid nearly as much for the adaptor as I did for the V6 intercooler, LOL
