Really?? I'd like to think not as according to Andy forest the sti 5 can take it depending on how you drive it. But with 400 Shetland ponies at your feet it would be hard not to burn some rubber every now and then lol. Cheers.

i have a completely rebuilt jdm sti 9 engine in my type r and to put a 20g on a standard(non rebuilt motor) imo is asking for trouble,i know this as my original engine went pop(77k) hence the rebuid, and that was just a remap with a little vf24 that tipped it over the edge.

I've got a 20g on my STi 5 - been on since November 2010. This is on a stock motor (@ c.47k miles from new), aside from an API modded/uprated oil pump (and Z.S. 71deg.C stat). Mapped by JGM on SC's rollers to 384/349.

No issues so far* (Probably given the engine the kiss of death now! ).

* I NEVER! do standing launches and don't rag the crap out of the engine everywhere I go though. TBH, on average, I perform the occasional overtake... And only hoon once in a blue moon. When 'not in the mood'/commuting/errands I mainly stay at or below 0 barg i.e. like driving an NA car.

Obviously it's less responsive than the std VF28 (VF28 had great spool), but the difference in the way it rips through the revs and sustains it is so much more enjoyable.... And devastating to other road users LOL.

Just use the 'box more to get round any repsonse 'issues' - it's what it's there for.

Bought it off Scott T. (the ex-Polar Performance chap). Apparently he bought it off someone who had it rebuilt/balanced/ported in the UK. Has a blingly highly polished comp cover lol.

That 384.3bhp is V-P only. Could get a 2nd meth+VP map on the Simtek, and break 400bhp, I suppose...

The ebay specials don't always NOT make the numbers...

IIRC, I think JGM mapped some chap's eBay special 20g to over 400 on his UK 2000! - but at the owners insistence, it has to be said

Also, my mate had an Evo IV and a JAW 20g and he got 397/400 on his!

Just that the cheapo internet 20g's are more likely to prematurely break. I would never risk buying one at all.

in general the sti5/6 engine will take it.. just that engine is now 13years old, so any issue that might be going to happen soon will happen sooner with a bigger turbo on it.

Yeah, indeed. I'm fully aware of this, and am counting the months (years, hopefully) lol

As per my first post, my relative lack of hoonery will, hopefully, go some way in postponing 'the inevitable'

What turbo would you guys recommend for a STI 5/6 to "safeish" max with the right mods on a simtek on pump fuel? Sc38? One of Harveys hs38 or hs40 or any others?
