Default Reliabilty vs power

I've got a 05 sti and hopefully be running around 420-440 mark soon.
the car will be in standard internals still. Do u all think this is a good balance of every day reliabilty and a good power to run???
Does anyone else run this power and use the car every day???

Cheers

It will be fine as long as the map is good. My 04 STI has been running over 400bhp for since 2009 and the last 8 months at 470bhp on meths.

Miles on the clock 75K.

It can be done.

Long as you keep a regular check on things and have a good mapper your be fine.

Like Anders I've been running my car over 400 bhp since 2009. It's used everyday for work, school runs , shopping trips etc.

Currently running 450 on v power and 480 on v power + meth.

My car is now coming up to 10 years old and only been in the last year things have needed replacing with age of the car etc.

Forgot to say, change your oil more often. Mines been changed every 5K or 6 months as it was a WR1 and it hasn't done it any harm

Md321t
Fmic
650 injectors
Ks tech short ram mega maf
290 hrc fuel pump
Gt spec headers with Harvey smith up pipe
3 port
Full 3" turbo back de cat system

On what ECU Craig?

I had to recently upgrade to a 3 bar map sensor too.

Standard ecu
That's why I went for the mega maf as was told there's more scope when mapping it... Thought standard ecu's are good for 450???

I think the "every day" bit is irrelevant to a degree. Reliability, type of use and miles per year IS imo.

Anyway.....

My JDM has been at 400bhp for around 4k. The last 2k has been at 450bhp.

No issues whatsoever yet. Car drives like it did when totally stock.

However car only done 14k miles.

+1

10K miles tottering round town is quite different to 10K miles hoofing it round the back roads.

Same with motorway use vs short journeys with lots of cold starts (short journeys is worse, just incase people don't already know this ).

Add trackdays and red mist moments into to mix to futher reduce lifespan etc.

Yes should be OK,but your OE MAP sensor is limited to 1.55-1.6bar,plus OE ECU can control boost up to 1.6bar(some more),if you want run more boost i would have look for Apexi AVC-R.if not aftermarket ECU will do job without the going for AVC-R and you can run mafless

MAP and MAF are two different sensors, and when you are bought big MAF tube/induction kit this only for one reason and this is maxing MAF voltage with OE MAF tube, someone with more knowledge will confirm this or denied

I upgraded my ECU to Syvecs when I started using meths and MD321T billet turbo (one of the first fitted). So mine is now MAFless and runs 1.8Bar in the midrange holding 1.7BAR to the redline.

You might need to go up to 740cc injectors for over 400?

Not really he will be OK with 650cc at this level,650cc should be OK up to 450bhp without the problem,if he want go above 480bhp i would advise 740cc

Same boost on V-Power, just get more power and torque with meths.

650cc will be fine if you stick to V-power, but you'll be close if you use meths.

I was going to use a 18G on my last project and after a load of research and chatting with mapper worked out 350-360 was the normal, only the Harvey smith or Andy Forrest units made 370+bhp. A decent set of headers and up pipe will help you get over 360 on a standard 18G and a decent actuator.

You could also add a bit of meth and get past the 380 mark remember it also depends on the condition of the engine as to what power you will get from mods, it's when you start modding that on going engine faults start to become apparent. Would be a good idea to get a full service and health check including a compression test before you start ramming more power through it and not reaching the cars full potential.
