Hi all been looking at my mates impreza today as had a lot of trouble since his 02 sensor melted and shorted out. He has repaired O2 and bad wiring and today done a ecu reset as car was running very bad still and there is fuel dripping out the exhaust headers and I mean dripping (pool on the floor) so my first question is what would this be. Was thinking maybe injector problem but has anyone ever had this problem ? The car has always took a while to start and smelt of fuel but did run ok Any help would be great with this prob and then can move onto the next lol

 

Are you sure it is coming out of the headers, Do the headers have an exhaust leak?
Is it not possible that it might be either coming from the fuel rails/injectors and down the side of the block, Does it have an aftermarket Fuel Pressure Regulator fitted, If it does what is it reading? Which side is it leaking from?
I wouldn`t be inclined to have it running though if it leaking fuel mate.

 

it's 100% coming out the headers and not from above as this was the first thing we checked and it's dripping from the slip joint (after market headers) I was with a mechanic of 30 years and he couldn't believe it either so any ideas with this in mind ?

 

maybe leaking was the wrong word really and no there is not an aftermarket fpr as far as I know could this cause this if it's failed? and also if injector is faulty would that put on check light

 

You should never have pools of petrol in the exhaust unless it is running RIDICULOUSLY rich. I think gazza is right and the fuel is running down the side of the block. Common for fuel lines to expand in the winter, which leads to bad fuel smells and sometimes fuel leaks.

 

as said its not running down the block as this was obviously the first thing we checked but the block is dry and free from petrol so are rails etc it is 100% in the exhaust headers as soon as you start it it's dripping out the slip joint and everything above is dry and also it's rite in the middle of the engine bay at the front so is no fuel anywhere near there

 

I would guess from the lambda fault its massively overfueled it. Its well worth fittting a new set of plugs. Can take quite along time to burn the excess fuel off.. How long have you had it running for? Are you sure the lambda is now working properly?

 

mate bought the O2 sensor as fully working of here I think but have not yet tested it as ran out of light to be honest so is a possibility I guess but seems more like an injector stuck or something as is loads of fuel there dripping out but the check light is still on even after doing a Ecu reset so could be bad O2 sensor but could it really cause that much over fuelling ?

 

any ideas people really need to get this sorted?

Is the car running on all 4 cyl ?

if not id be following the header back to the cyl and checking plug and compression at this point.

did you say there is no cel ?

 

There is a check light
codes were: 32 33 44 45 21 24 prior to this mechanic taking the car.
