Default twin exhaust?

haha i bet most of you think i was going to put a twin exit exhauts and ruin my scooby, nah!

i have a racetube on my scooby atm, i want to somehow get a butterfly electronic valve on the center pipe, and have it coming at a 90 degree angle with a cat and a silencer and the smallest quietest backbox i can find..

just looking for some guidance really, basically i want a second exhaust hidden from the side in the center, with an electronic valve on it which i can flick and it will cut the main exhaust off and switch to the side (quieter) exhaust, i have found an electronic exhaust valve which looks like it would do the job, but it only has one valve on, i was guessing i would need to cut the center pipe, put the valve in on the switch, then have a 90 degree pipe coming off before the valve with another valve after that to open it to the secondary exhaust?

obviously if i was to do this when i come to doing it i would get 2 maps, one for the straight through and one for the silenced box..

any thoughts on this, has anyone done this before..

only want to do this as i love the race tube, and would like the choice for it to be quiet when need be at the flick of a switch..

if anyone wants to say, just swap it for a quieter one, please feel free to say this at the begining so i can get the stupid comments first! ;-)

many thanks, jamie.

just swap it for a quieter one :P

i know the feeling my custom racetube on full throttle is near 120db and i got an ecv to try and lower the db's, it did a little but i just went back to the afterburner vortex, best of both worlds i thought. it could be possible but i doubt it will be cheap and ive not seen it done on a car.

yer i know its like £140 quid for a valve with all the piping on ebay but i would guess i need the 2 valves to cut one off and open the other... i got the idea after seing an old v8 muscle car with a similar valve which opened near the manifold so it was staight through when needed lol

see im slightly confused, how would that stop the sound coming from the main exhaust or would it not matter, but in my case i have that, as my main exhaust and i want the quiet on to be open and the other closed... hmmmmmmmm very confused how id do this?!

nice video though, that is what i was on about though regarding the valve..

Normal quiet running the valve would shut forcing the gases to exit through any silencers you have, as soon as the valve is opened the gases would take the easiest route with least resistence and make tons of noise

http://shop1.actinicexpress.co.uk/sh...2847f1aa7c46c5

Thats the one i was tempted to use but a bit expensive for me lol

how would i do it the other way round though, i have a rcm team ice straight pipe and straight center and straight down pipe?? so the main (Loud) sound will be coming from the main exhaust system and the quiete will be side mounted (hidden) with a silencer and perhaps a cat if i could fit it in there to silence it as much as i could...

The idea of one of the valves above is the make the exhaust as short and freehold as possible so seems a little strange to want to have 2 complete systems. I would think an easier option would be a side exit noisy exhaust and a rear exit quiet one maybe?

how about fit a quiet exhaust and just have a valve open to atmosphere? that would be easier but you would lose your rcm tube, unless you stick it on after the valve, so you would need a y shaped pipe i guess

i really dont want to change my setup atm which is the racetube as the main as it looks really good too, it has a 4.5" up and angled burnt tip like the vortex, it looks mint! so ive already basically got the open to atmosphere, but now want an open to quietsmphere lol

Why don't you pick more simple option, get a manual ECV valve, you can easily control its position from the cabin whenever you want...? I have a brand new ECV available, cheap as chips.

hmmm looks really good but does it work?? lol as i have complete straight through, what about the gases being blocked from the engine wouldnt this cause it to explode or something?!? :s

Thanks though!

Tbh no, haha as much as I'd love to say yeah its an awesome bit of kit n try to sell it... I can't, there's a 2-3mm gap all around so gases still get through but your boost is restricted until opened. Mines straight through too but didn't make much difference so now I'm using it to make a exhaust cut out

Mine Apexi one, had a very small gap around, a lot lees than yours on the picture above.
Anyway, it is not meant to close the valve and then drive it like you stole it. The purpose of this valve is more sophisticated. For example when you come/leaving home at strange hours, when the cops are present, to be within a dB limits when you entering racing track (no need to install other muffler just for trackdays)... Name it. So, for a short time period and out of boost.
And yes, Apexi one works very well on cannon mufflers.
