Just want to hear some do's and dont's before hand. Help's avoid blowing myself up

Continuity is not always the best method! As you can have a wire with 20 strands in it, 19 of which can be corroded or broken and it will show you have continuity, the best way is to test it as a complete system. What are you testing for?

The wiring is all there and present. While the engine is out getting a rebuild. I wanted to check if the dash light's etc are all okay, front and rear lights,Alarm system.
It Seem's like its best to wait till the engine's back together

If it only has one ring connector to the starter (battery pos) all you will need to do is insulate that connector so it cannot touch the chassis. Connect the battery and shut the bonnet to close the alarm switch.
If it has 2 ring connectors to the starter, you will need to bridge them together.
