Exclamation Quick cam cover question

So i am about to replace my timing belt for the first time on a 98 type r.
The cam cover gasket is leaking a little on the turbo side.
Just wondered if the cam cover hold the cams in place? or
is there cam followers underneath? If i take the cam cover off, will it release them?

Its just a cover to hold the oil in - the cams have their own seperate caps to locate them.
