No chance on a standard set-up if its a wrx. If it has a td04 then that will max out at 280 and thats with supporting mods like a de-cat exhaust, fuel pump, panel filter, 3 port solenoid, de-cat up pipe and remap.

Basically, he's talking **** so walk away.

Tesco 99 and very close to det !, no honestly most get 280 on good pump fuel, its not imposs, but no mapper will say he is going to get a set BHP unless there is scope for error, so you will get 275 min, you cant say wat the max is within reason.

Not a chance of a wrx making that power with that spec, 280 at the absolute most to be honest. It needs a bigger turbo at the very least to make that sort of power.

280bhp fly wheel power, probably around 210-220bhp wheel power.

There is someone on here who has got 300bhp out of td04. They posted the dyno up a few months ago and the mapper confirmed it.

No - stock TD04. IIRC there were plenty of supporting mods behind it to extract every last bhp out of it - there are a couple out there at this level on a TD04 but they are very much "special" cases.

£6k for a wrx blob is too much now unless its really low mileage.

Honestly mate, i'd go for an STI if you can over the WRX. The STI comes with stuff that are well over engineered for the STI's designed power. For example, the 6 speed box has taken over 700hp before, the 5 speed in the wpERX has trouble handling half that. The engine as standard will take 400-450bhp+ no probs (provided version 7-9). Tmic will also operate effeciently at higher power than WRX one. Many reasons to buy STI over WRX and with the prices as close as they've ever been, you'd be silly not to

yer its ok getting a sti but what do i get i only really want max 300 anyway im going from a 1.9cdti so anything petrol feels like a rocket lol plus its only a weekend toy as i work 50 mile from home (100 mile a day) so cant run it as everyday car plus im not looking at 400+ bhp ever. ok it has a 6 speed box and some other toys but if im not going over 300bhp theres no need for a sti is there. plus as iv read on here the sti is only good if you going for big bhp as im not a wrx sti lookalike will be fine for me plus if i want big power ill just uprate everything but as iv had a diesel for 2years and only had diesels bhp is not real a thing in diesels lol......so a wrx ticks all the boxs in a way

My Sti might be up for sale in the very near future and you will have change from 6k!!! As already said the wrx is massively over priced mate.

Check my garage for spec and pics

It's entirely your decision at the end of the day but 90% of people who get these cars whether it be as a weekend toy or a daily runner, get bitten by the modding bug and look for more power. To buy and add the sti goodies to handle the power would be very expensive. The amount between the WRX and the STI isn't much in terms of initial costs to buy at the mo. Especially when you consider that to buy a 6 speed kit to put on a WRX will be £2k and thats not even including labour to fit. You get better brakes, better engine, interior. Clutch will even handle much more power than the WRX one.

It's your decision as i've said, but i feel you may regret starting out with a WRX further on down the line

well if you are considering that car we can assume you have a budget of £6K. You could get a blob sti for that money the way things are at the moment.
Trust you are bound to want more power once you have had it for a bit.

Question to the OP.

do you know what a 300bhp Impreza feels/drives like? You keep saying you "only" want 300bhp, but how do you know?

I went from a 200bhp Mazda to a 300+ bhp Impreza and I was completely shocked at the power increase. I still smile my *** off when I drive it and think of all the years I wasted modding n/a cars, but after 8 months i've realised that I want more!
