Default Bonnet flapping

Hi there I have a 2003 blobeye, this is my first Subaru and I'm loving it, but just wanted to find out if this is normal,

At around 70-80 mph the bonnets starts to lift up and down at the corners, at "higher speeds" it really starts flapping around making the car vibrate as the wind forces it up and down. Really worried that is gonna lift or it's just something they all do?

Cheers

mine doesnt really flap as such, but i noticed at high speeds the scoop makes a whistling noise and it does seem to vibrate the bonnet around a bit.

are the little black stops touching the bonnet in the front corners?
dont wind them out too much but if they arent touching it the bonnet will move slightly.

Yeah I wound the black rubbers so that they were touching but still doing it, not sure if I'm just worrying over nothing,
I was thinking of fitting them flush fitting bonnet pin? What do you think? I wonder if they would cause the bonnet to crack?

Cant say any more than anyone else has so far, BUT make sure you sort something, i had a bonnet come over at 80mph 3 years ago on a vectra gsi in the dark, 2 weeks intensive care, 5 weeks off work, car wrecked, for god sake get someone to look at it for you if your not sure.

That is definitely not normal. My bonnet does not move at all at any speed, even over 120mph it is still. The scoop can move a little with bumps in the road but not the bonnet.

My bonnet shakes when I'm going over bumpy road sections. Have stiff coil overs though. Hmmm, time to worry?

Makes interesting reading this. I bought my Spec C at the beginning of October and noticed the same problem as Sam WRX. Spoke to a few members in our local club who have blob's and most said they have the same problem with the bonnet lifting.

It is really unnerving to see it lift once you go over 70mph.

My bonnet seems to flap ever so slightly when at high speeds but that is due the to air intake scoop placing pressure on the bonnet to raise. Obviously the faster you go the more the bonnet will flap but this all depends on the looking mechanism.

Early this year my bonnet use to pop up from its lock whilst driving which i then had to pull over and push back down. This is common in the subaru (mines an 04 STI) where the bonnent latch gets sticky. I was told to pop the bonnet up completely and using a screwdriver push the lock spring in and out several time. I did this sprayed WD40 and pressed the lock in and since it has been fine. As for the bonnet flapping that will never go away mainly because of the large intake scoop.

maybe its an sti thing then? My puny wrx scoop doesn't give me the lift.

Although i have heard that wind tunnels have shown air goes over the scoop at high speed?

Heh, puny. Just keep saying "Its not how big it is, its what you do with it that counts".

Anyway, even if science proves it, I refuse to believe it. How could something that looks that good not work!

Bonnet is a worry though. I'm gonna do the wd40 thing.
