you got a filter on there? If not & you have standard intake, go back & check nothing is left open.

Yes but you wouldn't get a whistle on boost if the dv was stuck

Yes if stuck open, and you would likely loose boost.

But if stuck shut, ie the spring wasnt budging then you wouldnt be dumping back into the intake, thus exhaust chudder, not a woooshh noise but a unusual noise.

Its only a shot in the dark though. I would take the car to someone on here whom is clued up to have a look for you.

Try another thread asking for help in the XYZ area.

Might sound stupid but is the air box completely sealed shut. When I replaced my panel filter I didn't shut the box properly and I got the whoosh sound and no boost loss.

I was at API on Fri and was looking at their tuning goodies on display. I picked up the Forge v.3/4 recirc DV and pushed against the piston. It took pretty much all the strength in a single thumb to overcome the spring and push it up.

So I reckon yours is normal then.... So long as it does actually move in/out smoothly, etc...?

Have you trimmed the dimples off the the bottom of the filter? If you don't it will sit proud and not seal properly

Sounds as though to me the OP had running issues and cleaned the maf, now has resulted in an odd noise.

So OP, what exactly did you do when cleaning the maf? Did you touch the intake other than the MAF, or any other parts at all.

53 is right about the dimples on the panel filter, but we dont know if you have even touched this?

When mine was standard I got a turbo whistle and very slight whoosh when giving her some stick. But I could only hear this when the windows are done up. Your whistle is normal for a turbocharged car so ignore that. At what point do you get the whoosh? I.e normal driving or when giving it some stick?

If the car/engine is running a standard tmic, OEM recirc dv, standard induction and all you have done to clean the maf is remove it, then im struggling to see how anything has changed. Is re the vac pipes to the dv fitted correctly, no cinks and is it attached to the manifold. Also is the 33mm outlet from the dv attahced correctly, and is this also plumbing back to the intake? If either of these are off I can see why you would be getting chatter, or the whoosh as air is not being recirculated, and is either being back filled through the turbo, or released vta and the intake return would not be returning correctly.

Sorry amego, I totally forgot you had an OEM recirc. FAIL.

But as above, it sounds like the DV itself is working properly.... EXCEPT.... that it sounds as though there's a loose connection at one end of the recirc hose, ergo air escaping to atmos, and hence a non-recirc-style whooshing noise.

When you get to look at it, if you're not sure what you're looking for, post some close-up pics up of the items mentioned in this thread.

Hopefully... something will be blindingly obvious...

i may be missing the point here, but my bug eye wrx gets the whining/whistling sound when turbo spinning up and on boost. when your accelerating hard and change gear i get a slight whoosh.
i got a simota panel filter and standard dv. surely its just normal?
or is the said noise in the origional post alot louder than the one im thinking off?

sparky, the noises when on boost are invariably the cocophany of semi-muted induction roar (muffled by the airbox/MAF/intake trunking) + the turbo spinning up.

When you come off the throttle from hard boosting, you may possibly hear a slight muffled/muted whoosh as the recirc'd air goes back to the intake. But it won't be loud... if anything at all. (Assuming, of course, you do have the OEM recirc DV?).
