TMIC or FMIC for my V2 STI 96 ? Which one ?
Hi. As above I'm looking to upgrade the intercooler on my V2 Sti (slanty top mount) due to remap after New Year. I'll be going for 320-330 bhp so I'm guessing that my standard TMIC won't handle it. I can get an Autobahn88 FMIC for £100 but I've read that these are not really good quality so... Another option is to get a top mount from later STI but i've heard that conversion is not easy.
Any advice ?
Thank You

I'm a fan of going the newage TMIC route as I like the stock look. I would normally advocate this, but as your car has the slanty top mount it's a lot of work and i'd say bite the bullit and get a Hybrid Front Mount off Harvey on here.

On a version 2 there isn't as much room for a bigger intercooler so fitting the later sti one doesn't work, it's difficult enough getting a late classic intercooler to fit a version 2
There are 2 options for you. Fit an ARC top mount for a version 1 & 2, I ran one of these with great results over standard.
Fit a front mount. I don't know what make mine is because I bought it 2nd hand but I'm now running 420bhp through it and it only cost me £100 to buy and a day or so to fit

The only reason I've asked you guys about price is that I know that Harvey is a VERY busy man, and I don't like to wait :-) I would ask him anyway but I thought it might be quicker to ask on here first.
Thanks for the replies.

ARC FTW I have an ARC on the one classic and a FMIC on the other either is good but FMIC is safest for over 300bhp I think the GT Specs are about £369 from Harvey the GT2 being a little more. You don't need the GT2 though
Depends what you want really. My Wagon has a FMIC as it is c.340 tracked, the WRX has the ARC as I want an uber spooling quick road car for c.300.
Both have 6 speeds fitted for the inevitable 5 speed breakages for which you'd be better looking at 300bhp options if you're retaining the 5 speed .

Autobahns are ok I guess, depends how deep your pockets are and how particular you are about new/used quality of fitment etc. Autobahns tend to sit lower down so look a bit poor without a splitter. IMHO. GT fitment on early classics is spot on and their efficiency is well documented.

If you want an efficient front mount intercooler that will outperform all top mounts and other front mounts costing three times as much, with good thermal properties and very low pressure drop over the core, thus giving your turbo an easier time or allowing you to make more boost at the same duty cycle then the Hybrid GT is what you want. £335. Next day delivery £12.50 or bring the car here and we will fit same day £185.
