Or you could try to use a torx bit instead of a normal allen key, sometimes this will grip into a rounded hole

You could 'T' off from the OEM oil pressure switch.

That's do-able.

How did you manage to round off that hole, and NOT the Allen key you were using?

I assume you DID use a GOOD QUALITY 8mm Allen key?

So Can i use the oem sensor under the alternator to run both the oil temp and oil pressure gauges as i have the braided hose with two fittings on it and will it still give a good reading for both gauges thanks

I used that one to fit the OE sender and the gauge sender as they use different senders, I'm not sure running 3-senders of the same would work.

You could always try a drift and hammer the bung out using the hammer and drift to turn it in the thread, mine wasn't that tight and I suspect it was the rust rather than seizure that caused it to spin. Alternatively, try and hammer in a larger (9mm) allen socket and use a ratchet to loosen it off

If you bin the OEM sender remember to remove the bulb from the oil pressure warning light otherwise you'll have a moment when you forget the sensor isn't there

Why don't you buy a sump bung adapter from advanced automotive, much easier & will give a more accurate temp reading.

Don't put an oil temp under the alternator you won't get any oil flow so reading will be way off. This location is fine for the stock oil pressure switch and oil pressure gauge sender.

Best reading for temp is the sump as the sender is upside-down so has better oil supply. Also under manifold temps can cause inaccuracies with No 3 location.

That is correct, it is the place Subaru provide, and that for a reason: No3 cylinder is known to run hottest.

Put it there, anywhere else gives low readings.

Valid point alcazar, but don't you want to know all your oil is hot before you give it the berries & not just the oil near No 3. Also If the bung won't come out on No 3 a sump sender is the best solution.

If I'd saw this thread earlier, would have posted the socket I bought, for you to use/borrow.

Above No.3 is the best place for oil temp IMO, but, if the bung is buggered, T off from the oil pressure adaptor, as Merlin said earlier in the thread.

So could you defo not get it into the right place?
Maybe no oil getting to it, not enough to take the oil temperature?

Also, are you sure it's earthed? Try touching a bit of wire from the SENDER outer parts to battery -ve.

Maybe try the sensor in a mug of boiling water?
My Defi reads from 50 degrees, so it OUGHT to show, if it's working.

If not, duff sensor?

What type of gauges are these again? Does the gauge do ANYTHING? Light up? etc?

Do what alcazar says, if the sensor is Ok then as suggested by others that location is no good. Your only option now is sump bung location as I suggested before. Mine is in a sump bung adapter & works perfectly.
