hi to everyone I would like to say thanks to the guys who helped me yesterday with info and I managed to get my engine out, I have a very eairly prodrive type r do i have a closed deck block in my car?

think it would either be a type r or a p1 , neither have closed decks

to check look above the crank pulley in the centre at the front of the engine , just above to the left slightly of the pulley ( under the alternator ) you will see the crank sensor , behind this sensor you will see there should be cross hatched markings if it is a closed deck block , if there is no markings then it is either semi or open deck

the cross hatched markings are all to do with the casting process used to make the closed deck blocks , of which subaru no longer use this casting process i believe to make the block casings but do use it elsewhere with the heads , the markings are left behind as a result of the process , hence why open decks etc dont have the markings as a different casting process is used
