Unhappy ENGINE PROBLEMS

hi everyone still having problems with my wrx wagon since the engine went in. i had a friend of a friend put the rebuilt engine back in for me since then major problems obviously the knocking from the big end has gone but its still real bad. firstly starts terrible once started it splutters through all gears in second or third at about 5 rpm it just doesnt do anthing for a few seconds then evetually starts to accelerate secondly it wont go past about 70 75 . the friend of a friend hooked his computer up and it came back as a cam sensor i phoned subaru and they said change the cam and crank sensor. i pulled the battery off left it over night and i put both sensors on this morning and its exactly the same if not worse any help would be greatly appreciated thanx

With a freshly built engine of unknown origin it could be such a multitude of things so start with the basics i guess...

Chack it's firing on all 4, check the timing, check cam timing, check for any air/water/exhaust leaks, check compression, then if thats all ok then go from there...

Have the codes been cleared since the new sensors were fitted?

You'd have to get someone to plug it in again and have them cleared

To add, pull the plugs, check the gaps, check the plug leads back to the coil packs for connections and breaks in them, check the wiring to the coil packs - check all connectors fitted properly and the pins are clean. check all of the connectors by pulling them apart and reconnecting, adding some wd40 would not go amiss.

also check and clean all the earths/earthing straps, check they are fitted, clean and tight.

If your near bham/solihull i can do it for free for you. (check codes And reset that is ) ive just received my obd 2 scanner today from ebay £22-00. So it would pay for itself in one go mate.
