lambda testing?

is there anyway to test a lambda on a 97 uk2000, done 400 miles on rebuild engine, drives perfect but on slowing down exhaust pops and bangs, no fault codes up so thinking poss lambda? thanks

signal wire should show 0-1v thats nought to one up and down like a fiddlers elbow while on tickover and the same when revved
