Default 2002 Prodrive Sti Type UK

Having owned my WRX for a few months now I've decided to up the ante and buy an STi rather than modify this car. I wondered if anyone had any particular pearls of wisdom about the 2002 Sti - the specific car I'm looking at is a black prodrive type uk. I know there are buyer's guides and I've read them all - just wondered if there is anything else to help me make a decision this weekend. Thanks fellas.

There is no such thing as a "prodrive type UK" LOL

The UK Bug STi came in two flavors, the standard " MY02 WRX STi Type UK" and the "MY02 WRX STi Type UK Prodrive Style".

The latter "Prodrive Style" had a styling package of clocks, skirts, bumper, grille rear spoiler (I think that's it) but was mechanically the same as the bog standard WRX STi Type UK. As it was modified before registration it should have Prodrive style on the V5.

If you wanted Subaru UK to add more power you could add the Prodrive Performance Pack to both of the cars for more BHP which included exhaust mods and re-map. This added "PPP" to the moniker LOL

Is there any link to the sale. Black WRX STi Type UK Prodrive Style bugs are quite rare these days

Shaun

Basics really such as FSH subaru preferred, cambelt done? Check panels for matching paint etc incase its had a shunt and been painted. Also whether the car has been looked after or not generally

Same as Midlife, it sounds like its the STi with the Prodrive Style pack

PPP isnt really worth anything as its still a 'safe' map and not a unique map to your engine.

Thanks for the advice folks. Yes, it's a Prodrive Style, not a Type UK, and it does appear on the V5 as such and has all the trimmings you describe. I think I may go for it as it's a really tidy one.

REAR STRUTS! The usual crap when buying a car applies but this is likely if on standard shocks. Rear struts on STIs are renowned for knocking and sticking, if bad you will actually feel the car drop suddenly at the rear when stopping at junctions etc... or if real bad you will be able to lift the car by the rear wheel arch and it will stay raised

There is a fix for the rear struts if you dont mind stripping them, cleaning and re greasing. did mine a year or so ago and havent had them clonk or stick since.

Thanks again for the advice.

On a separate note, I've also been offered a P1. It looks like a good one with the suspension overhauled and a new clutch and gearbox, only 51000 miles. I notice the engine (remapped to 310 with zorst) has never been rebuilt however - if the worst happens and the big end fails, what am I looking at for a rebuild somewhere here in Essex. What a car though!
