Default Cut out on hard acceleration

Hi all, I am after a bit of advice, so hoping someone on here can help me. I have just bought a 1998 Impreza 2000 Turbo (UK model), and when i put my 'pedal to metal', it seems to hit some sort of limiter? It boosts for a bit, then cuts, then carries on. The car is standard apart from a panel K&N filter, and a ss exhaust. Other than when I put my foot down hard, it drives 100%. I can put the accelerator down 85% and it has no issues, its just when I go all the way, it cuts. Has anyone got any ideas what may be causing this?

Thanks

Sounds like fuel cut to me, usually caused by to much boost. Do you have a boost gauge fitted?

Hi there, no boost gauge fitted as of yet.... So it may be worth me taking it somewhere to get it set up correctly?

More than likely to be fuel cut as already mentioned. Is there a boost controller, bleed valve, or dawes valve fitted somewhere?

Probably a good idea to rig up a boost gauge temporarily or permanently and go from there. Post up the results...

I am not sure if there is a boost controller.... I don't think there is. Certainly not an in-car one anyway. I will have a look under the bonnet and check to see if I can see one. Good Idea about the boost gauge. If it is this fuel cut, is it damaging the car in any way? Am I ok to drive it normally just not accelerate heavy?

Try not to induce the fuel cut until it is fixed if you really need to drive it. If it were me I'd not drive it until it was sorted to be on the safe side.

Open the bonnet and locate the turbo and actuator at the top left of the engine bay. Off the actuator you will see some small bore hoses. If there is a controller fitted these will have tampered with. Another possible is the hose from the bottom of the standard Boost Control Solenoid may have popped off or is missing.

Can you post up pictures?

fule starvation? heard it all now lol

sounds like its overboosting and the ecu is pulling it back, boost or fuel cut. Dont thrash it, dont try to drive through it, try to drive it very very steady untill its sorted properly by someone who knows what there doing.

could be caused by any nbumber of issues from a split pipe, duff sensor or someones tried to up the boost and cocked it up.

get a specialist to look at it and see what its doing.

Try cleaning the boost solenoid. So much crap comes out when you do it.

Mine had fuel cut like you are describing. A quick clean and all way right again.

OK so just had a look, and there is a pipe loose. One that comes from the actuator has been split and a pipe in the middle hanging loose. I have no idea where that pipe should go to? If someone could tell me how to upload pics or if not, send me their email address, I have taken some photos of the suspect pipe. Thanks.

I think the easiest way to post pictures is with a Photobucket account. Free here http://photobucket.com/.

Then copy and paste the links from Photobucket onto here.

Quite straightforward.

Ok... I think it is now sorted. Basically the pipe that comes from the actuator and to the Solenoid has become disconnected. I have plugged them back together, and so far, so good. I took it on a quick test drive, and it now doesn't cut out on full load. So fingers crossed that has solved the issue. Many thanks for all your advice. Glad the issue is resolved. Yay!
