I've never made one but I would of thought thin sheet alloy would be ok with some sort of stick on heat deflector on the side nearest the turbo ? or maybe someone else knows of a better way ? Have a look at these pics I found online they might help you

RCM Gobstopper.

They figure they don't need one, and neither do we.

........have a search on here for Harvey's simple divider to help keep the hot engine air away from the cone.

Far be it from me to disagree with Alan but this is something I would think about..

whats the point as it will heat up through the turbo, as long as you have a good intercooler core that cools the charge temp, then surely thats what counts? or am i missing something??

Good air feeds are better than heatshields. Heatshields are only really worth it when stuck in traffic, or slow moving traffic. Personally I've got a heatshield I made myself, with a big cold air feed though. But many will say a good air feed is sufficient.

That's about the strength of it. If RCM thought they needed it they'd have it! In any event, the incoming air doesn't hang around the engine bay long enough for it to be a big deal when running under boost. The turbo heats incoming air up very nicely thanks. If you're going to want to work on cooling, try the intercooler.

Not true entirely Alan. If you are still MAF based, it is important to ensure this inlet air is as cool as possible.

To the OP - I have done some testing with this and as long as you have a good front air feed, you should be alright. Duct from the front fog lamp cover works. Bin the snorkel and inner wing resonator as well!

Thanks everyone for all replies

Just as an update, my car has a fmic, and simtek fitted, the inner wing resinator has been removed, the front air intake (snorkel i think) has a hole cut out at the end so the air blows over the filter, but im also going to fit a front air feed sometime soon.. im hitting 400 horses, so will consider boxing from engine, will see what i can come up with, ok so may well not be necc. but cant do any harm i recon.

Again cheers soo much for all posts, all were very helpful.

You don't need to box from the engine, but it will obviously help. Without a devider, I only see an increase of 2-3degs at the MAF over ambient. I think that's pretty damn good.

Im going to box mine- touch any metal on the intake pipe after a little run- cant hurt and its not difficult.

Thats plus a cold air feed, and a fat FMIC lol.

Surely cold air intakes have been done to death here, and inextricably linked to efficient turbo engines

Here's the WRC Mini
