Default Cant unlock car - dead battery??

My 2007 sti has been stood for 9 weeks and when I went to open it today, it wouldnt open using the button or even using the key in the lock? I suspect a dead battery, but as I cant open the door, I cant open the bonnet to charge my battery . apart from getting the AA to come out and neatly break in for me, any other ideas?

Cheers

Shaun

Yes you would think so, is it not because they have an electronic power lock or something? Baffling me

ah right, so the lock should open with key no matter what then... still need the door opening, I'll get the AA out to do it, get the car started then repair/renew the door lock.

Have a poke at a rear door lock through the hatch, with a stick.

its not classed as child labour so there's an easy fix, the lock on the boot is different to the doors so may well open easier,

get a skinny runt, from the house preferibly but if you dont have one then any skinny runt off the street should do,

ensuring there is no payment in sweets and the parents give permission first,

the statement, here is some sweets, now get in my boot may make some parents angry

also, there was a classic with a similar issue the other day,

the OP left their keys with no spare in the engine bay and closed their bonnet, thus locked out the car.

they simply pulled the grill out and pulled the bonnet release cable, not sure if the classic grill is easier to pull off compared to a newage grill,

just another thought,

Tesco's, every little helps

What about the other door ?

Or as above, most bonnets open from underneath if you can find the cable

I used to know someone who used to borrow other peoples cars rather a lot. He told me you can pull the rear windows open with your fingers away from the frame and reach in and unlock the doors. Thats how scoobys normally get nicked. Said you dont even need tools and can pull as much as you like the window wont break.

Not tried this myself on a scooby so cant vouch for the method. Did use this technique to break into my own Escort Diesel estate shed when I locked the keys in the boot. DOH. Worked a treat!

Good luck.

Got it all sorted now had to reach under engine bay and open bonnet at the catch, charge battery then was able to open doors and start car. Needed a new battery tho, was dead!

Turns out the reason the doors dont open by key when battery is dead, is that they must have previously been de-coupled mechanically so that you can only open by pressing the button on key or using the key manually, thus making it impossible to break open with a screwdriver or similar.

Couldnt get my head round it at first, but isnt a bad idea really! Just makes it a bit of a **** on if the battery ever goes flat again!
