Default OUTER CV JOINT

Hi Everyone

I was changing the cv boot on the outer joint ( the one that you can plunge in and out ) on my spare driveshaft and accidently pulled it apart , my question is does it just slide back on , i noticed that there is a large clip inside the workings , where does this go , i have just slip the casing back on and wiggled it about but it seems to not moves as freely with this clip inside and catches every now and then . any help is much needed as its booked in on wednesday to have the shaft changed

Just in case anyone does this the clip goes in a groove at the top of the barrel to stop the arm from sliding all the way out,I must of give it one he'll of a pull to get it out because you normally need a hammer to get the joint apart .
