If it's a UK car then it should just plug into the OBD II port from which it draws power and data....... was it working when you bought it ?

So it works now?
If it gets to the point where it says goodbye, it shouldn't be a power problem, just an issue communicating with the ECU. what version data monitor is it?

I'd get it fixed by the people that originally made it if I were you.... As per my earlier post, it's how mine is being fixed right now.
