Default 3 port boost solenoid not plumbed correctly?

Afternoon all,

I have been trying to find the correct connections for my 3 port boost solenoid as I don't think it was fitted right...

according to the image on scoobypedia i'm right - it wasn't.
there was definitely one connection to the compressor housing on the turbo, defintiely one to the actuator, but i'm sure the third port went to atmosphere.

In the mean time i've also found a bogded up hole on the bottom of the resonator box on the intake pipe, so i'm wondering if it should go to there? (looks like it from the image i mentioned!)

what effect would it have if this hose wasn't connected correctly?
I can understand the purpose of the other 2, but can't think why you'd need to know the vacuum in the inlet? surely it's just a matter of knowing how much boost is in the compressor housing and activating the wastegate when appropriate?

A 3 port boost solenoid works by switching the wastegate actuator between atmospheric pressure and boost pressure. This is the duty cycle that is controlled by the ECU.

The atmospheric pressure line is the one that goes to the resonator box, it is almost at atmospheric pressure since there is minimal vacuum in the inlet before the throttle. As long as this hose is not blocked it doesn't matter very much whether it's attached to the resonator box or hanging in the atmosphere

The boost pressure line goes to the compressor housing.

ok, cool. thanks for that. will check it's not blocked and just fix the hole in the resonator then, leaving it going to atmosphere.
