Default Coolant strangeness...

Tracked my car for the first time today and noticed after about 2/3 into the day that there was some coolant on the floor under the car when parked. After checking under the bonnet, I initially thought I had a leak but then noticed that the coolant filler cap had come loose. I put the spilled coolant down to it coming out from the filler cap when it was sloshing around as I was driving round the track. I then secured the cap.

However, after stopping off on the drive home and double checking it, I noticed that the coolant level had dropped significantly since last checking it. The filler cap had remained secure.

When I arrived home, I topped it up to FULL and wiped away any fluid from the surrounding area and the under-body tray. I came back a couple of hours later to find that the coolant level had dropped again but this time there was no leaked or spilled fluid to be found anywhere.

I've now topped it up again and put some cardboard under the engine to test whether or not there is a static leak.

The engine is running great, no overheating, no dramas on the track, etc.

Any ideas on what might be causing this strangeness?

As the coolant cooled the level would have gone down. So needed topping up again. Its probably as you say lost through the cap and needing a couple of hot/cold cycles to bleed any air out that may have got in.
